Why have a NAD blood test?

Maintaining NAD+ levels is important to keep you feeling healthy, focused and revitalised. Most people are aware of NAD+ supplements (or NMN) whether this is an oral, sublingual or intravenous infusion.
But when did you ask what are my NAD+ levels?

Whilst it is important to maintain optimum NAD+, too much can be bad for you. There is increasing clinical evidence that show elevated NAD+ levels can cause you harm when these are sustained in the long term.

We are one of the UK’s first clinical diagnostic testing facility to measure NAD+ and NADH levels in fresh blood using a CE IVD test method.

This means it is a diagnostic test This can be at our clinic

Because we use fresh blood, our test methods are accurate and reproducible.

"Reversing gout is within your reach. Take charge of your health and find the right treatment to reclaim your life." Kings Heath Private Clinic

Introduction:

Gout is a form of inflammatory arthritis that develops in people with high levels of uric acid in their blood. This condition is characterized by sudden, severe attacks of pain, redness, and tenderness in the joints, most commonly in the big toe. Gout is a result of the body’s inability to process and excrete uric acid effectively, leading to the formation of needle-like crystals in the joints and surrounding tissues. This Blog aims to discuss the nature of gout, its manifestation in the form of pain, the management and treatment options available, and the individuals who are most at risk.

Pain is the hallmark symptom of gout, often described as excruciating and debilitating. During a gout attack, the affected joint, typically the big toe, becomes inflamed, red, and extremely sensitive to touch. The onset of pain is often sudden and can be so severe that even the light pressure of a bedsheet can cause unbearable discomfort. The pain may also be accompanied by swelling and warmth in the affected joint, making movement difficult. These symptoms can significantly impact the individual’s quality of life, leading to decreased mobility and productivity.

To effectively manage and treat gout, it is crucial to address both the acute symptoms during a flare-up and the underlying cause of high uric acid levels. Pain management during acute attacks often involves the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or corticosteroids to reduce inflammation and alleviate pain. In some cases, colchicine, a medication that interferes with the inflammation caused by the uric acid crystals, may be prescribed. It is essential for individuals experiencing gout attacks to rest and elevate the affected joint and apply ice to reduce swelling.

Long-term management of gout focuses on lowering uric acid levels in the blood to prevent future flare-ups and joint damage. This can be achieved through dietary changes, including reducing intake of purine-rich foods such as red meat, seafood, and alcohol, which can exacerbate gout symptoms. Additionally, medications such as allopurinol and febuxostat may be prescribed to lower uric acid levels and prevent crystal formation. Lifestyle modifications, such as maintaining a healthy weight and staying physically active, are also important components of gout management.

Individuals who are at a higher risk of developing gout include men over the age of 40, postmenopausal women, individuals with a family history of gout, and those with certain health conditions such as obesity, hypertension, and kidney disease. Additionally, diets high in purine-rich foods and excessive alcohol consumption can contribute to an increased risk of developing gout. It is important for these individuals to be proactive in managing their risk factors through lifestyle modifications and regular medical monitoring.

In conclusion, gout is a painful and often debilitating form of arthritis characterized by sudden and severe joint inflammation. Effective management and treatment of gout involve addressing acute symptoms during flare-ups and implementing long-term strategies to lower uric acid levels in the blood. By understanding the nature of gout, its manifestation in the form of pain, the available management and treatment options, and the individuals most at risk, we can work towards improving the quality of life for those affected by this condition.
